Blackpool Civic Trust's Chairman helps launch Civic Day at the Houses of Parliament

2013

On Monday June 10, Blackpool Civic Trust chairman Joan Humble and the Civic Trust's President Elaine Smith, joined Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles MP, Members of Parliament, Civic Voice, and other Civic Societies at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London to mark the launch of this year’s annual Civic Day event.

Joan Humble commented, “This is a momentous occasion. For Blackpool to be selected to represent the civic movement for Civic Voice at such a prestigious event shows the organisation is ahead of the curve and attracting attention on a national scale.

Of all the Civic Trusts and Societies invited to London, only three were asked to speak about their work. Elaine Smith and I spoke of the exciting events Blackpool Civic Trust has organised over the two years of Civic Day celebrations and what we are planning for this year.

“Civic Day 2013 is our opportunity to shout about what the trust does. We’ve put on some great social events this year.  Everyone is welcome to get involved. Why not try it, meet us and if you like what you see you can join us.

Griff Rhys Jones, President of Civic Voice added: “A Civic Trust or Society is a friendly society, a concerned society and an active society. There has never been a more urgent time to get involved with our towns villages and cities. What is going on in your high street? Well this is your chance to find out. Civic day is happening all over England. Find out about the hard work of  Blackpool Civic Trust the fun they have doing it. Get involved. Get on to the streets. Help make our towns work. Be local.”
